Job Announcement: Modern Tibetan Studies

The Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at Columbia University invites applications for a full-time position in Modern Tibetan Studies (1600 to the present), open as to rank. Preference will be given to scholars specializing in modern Tibetan literature and/or history. Candidates must be fluent in the Tibetan language, with some knowledge of Chinese. An excellent record of teaching and scholarly publication is mandatory for a senior, and desirable for a junior candidate. The appointee will be expected to teach at both the graduate and undergraduate level and must be prepared to work with fellow faculty in the development of Tibetan studies, research, teaching, and programming at Columbia. Ph.D. must be in hand no later than August 2004. Please submit c.v. description of teaching and research interests, samples of written work and have three letters of recommendation sent to Chair, Modern Tibetan Studies Search Committee, East Asian Languages and Cultures, 407 Kent Hall, Columbia University, New York, New York, 10027. The committee will begin to consider applications on March 1 and will continue to receive applications until an appointment is made.
